Use white opposite yellow, green opposite blue, and red opposite orange. On a solved cube, white is above green and red is on the right. The four centers can move; copy them too.

R turns the right outer layer. Rw turns the two right layers together. A prime (′) reverses the turn; 2 means 180°. Judge the direction while looking directly at the named face.

How this 4×4 cube solver works

A 4×4 has 24 center pieces, 24 edge wings and eight corners. The solver first groups centers and pairs the edge wings, then finishes the reduced puzzle with 3×3 moves. It checks the full 96-sticker result before showing a solution. The sequence is a practical solution, not a guaranteed shortest one.

Keep one front and top throughout entry. Select a face below the model to bring it toward you. Unlike a 3×3, there is no fixed center sticker: enter all four middle squares. Check each color counter reaches 16. This 4×4 page currently uses manual input with the standard six-color scheme; photo recognition and custom colors remain on the 2×2 and 3×3 tools.

Follow wide turns and parity moves

Some 4×4 positions appear to have one flipped edge or two swapped edge pairs after reduction. These parity cases are valid on a 4×4. The solver handles them as part of its reduction. Watch the highlighted layers: Rw moves two layers, while R moves only the outer layer. Keep your original front while following the animation.

Questions about the solver

Does this solve an arbitrary scrambled 4×4?

Yes, when a standard six-color 4×4 is entered correctly and is physically solvable. The solution is calculated from the colors you enter; you do not need its scramble history.

Are OLL and PLL parity supported?

Yes. Valid 4×4 parity is handled during reduction, before the final 3×3 phase. A wrong color or an impossible piece still needs correcting.

Can I see the complete formula?

Yes. All moves shows the numbered sequence, and Copy formula copies it as text. Rw, Uw and similar symbols turn two layers together.

Why is photo upload missing here?

The 4×4 tool currently supports manual 3D entry. Its 16-square photo recognition has not been validated for release. Use the 2×2 or 3×3 tools for photo input.
